Radio City Rockette Alissa LaVergne talks alliance with USO (Includes interview)

These appearances take place from Memorial Day, Fourth of July and the summer season. The Rockettes are paying tribute to the service men and women and their families who have devoted their lives to serving the United States. “It has been great! It has been such an honor to be a Rockette at this year,” she said. “To participate in all of these events with the USO to show our appreciation for everything that they’ve done for us is really cool.”

Particularly impressive about the alliance between the Rockettes of Radio City and the USO is that it dates back over 70 years. She revealed that the Rockettes were among the first entertainers to join the USO in the ’40s, ever since America entered World War II. “To be able to bring that back after a little hiatus is really great, and to give them a little entertainment,” she said.

On July 4, the Radio City Rockettes performed at the Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets baseball game in Washington, D.C. as a part of the home team’s “Patriotic Series.” “That was probably the best performance and gig that I’ve done,” she admitted. “It was so great. I’m a huge baseball fan, and this was part of the Patriotic Series. The fans were everywhere, and they were just so excited to see us, which was really cool.”

For aspiring Rockettes, LaVergne’s advice is as follows: “Never give up on your dreams! I came from a very small town in Texas, where I never thought that being a Rockette was even possible.” “It was something that I wanted and worked hard for,” she said. “If you want it bad enough, and you love it enough, just keep going.”

The Rockettes will be announcing additional USO appearances and performances in the near future. For more information, check out their official website.
