Peyton Wich from ‘Stranger Things’ talks ‘The Darkest Minds’ film (Includes interview)

Wich will be seen in 20th Century Fox’s The Darkest Minds, where he stars opposite such actors as Amandla Stenberg and Harris Dickinson. The science fiction action film opens nationwide on August 3. “I am really super excited for that one. I will be going to the premiere in July, which will be fun. It was so much fun to play a part in that movie. I had a blast doing it, and working with everybody in the cast, and I can’t wait to see the finished product,” he said.

He had nothing but the greatest remarks about actors Amandla Stenberg and Harris Dickinson. “I love both of them. They are both super-funny and just fun to hang out with. I was there for quite a while, so we saw each other a lot. They are really good people,” he said.

Wich’s plans for the future are to move to Los Angeles, when he turns 18 years old, and to keep things going. “Acting has been a good thing for me so far, and I would love to keep it going and ride the wave. This is what I enjoy doing the most. It’s my dream,” he said.

On playing the bully Troy on Stranger Things, Wich said, “That was fun too. It’s a different character. I have to be mean on set, but then afterwards I get to have fun and hug everyone. I loved working with those kids on Stranger Things. They were very professional. I had a blast, and playing the bully was cool.” he said.

For young actors, Wich said, “Start with an acting class. They will teach you the very basics, not only about acting, but about the business. That’s a great place to start. That is where I started, and I couldn’t imagine starting anywhere else.”

He listed Robert Downey Jr. and Dwayne Johnson (“The Rock”) as his dream acting partners. “I would love to work on a film with those two. That would be great,” he said.

Digital transformation of entertainment business

On the impact of technology on the entertainment business, Wich said, “I think people are getting rid of cable. Personally, I use all of those streaming services such as Netflix. I think they are great. It is cool that Netflix and Amazon Prime have their own shows. It’s a lot less boring than flipping through channels on cable. You can put on whatever show you want to watch. They have everything that you are in the mood for.”

Regarding his use of technology in his daily routine as an actor, Wich said, “We get all these e-mails and then we have to print, and there is a lot of technology involved. When you go in for a live audition, there is not as much. I tape a lot, so technology is very heavily used in my daily life for acting. My scripts come in digitally on e-mail, but if I have enough paper, I print them out or read them on my computer screen.”

Wich shared that he will co-star in Columbia Pictures’ Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween, which will be out on October 10, alongside film stars Jack Black and Odeya Rush. “I can’t say too much about it. I am very excited for that one. It is going to be great,” he hinted.

In his spare time, he noted that he enjoys hanging out with friends, bike riding, and playing video games with his younger brother.

For his fans, Wich said, “Check out The Darkest Minds. It will be an action-packed ride. It’s going to be really fun. Personally, I can’t wait to see it.”
