Casey Affleck does a superb job in the lead role of Lee Chandler, and he deserves to be nominated for “Best Actor,” at the very least, thus earning his first prospective “Best Actor” nomination when the Academy Award nominations will be announced on Jan. 24. Michelle Williams is a revelation, and while her role is short, it is a heartbreaking performance that will leave viewers in tears. She deserves to be nominated for “Best Supporting Actress,” and to finally win her first-ever Oscar, after being nominated many times in the past (for such roles as Brokeback Mountain, My Week with Marilyn and Blue Valentine). Newcomer Lucas Hedges delivers a killer breakout performance as Lee Chandler’s teenage nephew, Patrick.
Manchester By the Sea is a movie about an uncle who is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the nephew’s father dies. This movie will leave the viewer drenched in a wide spectrum of raw emotions. It garnered a rave review from Digital Journal.
The film itself should garner an Oscar nomination for “Best Picture.” Film-maker Kenneth Lonergan is a true master, and he deserves nominations for “Best Director,” as well as for “Best Screenplay.”
