On September 17, acclaimed actor Jeff Daniels won the 2018 Emmy award for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie" for his acting work in the Netflix western drama series "Godless."
Daniels won for his portrayal of outlaw Frank Griffin. In his acceptance speech, Daniels thanked Godless writer and director Scott Frank. "Thank you to Netflix for your support of artists, and letting artists be artists."
Daniels also thanked his wife, family, as well as his horse wrangler Mark Warrick. "Little tip for you young actors. When they call and say 'can you ride a horse?' don't lie. You will find on day one that you are in the Kentucky Derby," he said, and went on to thank his horse Apollo (who was Jeff Bridges' horse in True Grit), who broke his wrist. "It was my left wrist," he admitted, and added that it is "officially healed" as he held up his Emmy trophy.
Actor Ali Agirnas, who co-starred in Godless with Daniels, offered his congratulatory remarks. "Being in such a pivotal scene with Jeff [Daniels] on Godless was a true honor. Considering his kind and spirited nature that I got to know on set, there is no doubt that he is a true master of his craft being able to generate a character full of hate and horror such as Frank Griffin. This Emmy was well-deserved."
In other Jeff Daniels news, he performed at the City Winery in New York City on August 15, with his son's band, The Ben Daniels Band.
