Lisiecki is fresh off his performance at the Malta International Music Festival, where he worked with conductor Constantine Orbelian to bring his thrilling talent to pieces by Offenbach, Chopin and Khachaturian.
For Thursday’s performance, and during the upcoming tour, Lisiecki will play Schumann’s Piano Concerto. Those eager for a sample of Lisiecki’s Chopin performances can always check out his most recent release from Deutsche Grammophon.
The accomplished pianist has been exciting both Canadian and international audiences since the age of nine. Twelve years later, the pianist has amassed a wealth of recognition and honours — including playing for Queen Elizabeth II in Ottawa in 2011. However, for a musician of Polish descent, the honour of opening Chopin’s 200th birthday celebrations at the composer’s birthplace of Żelazowa Wola must rate among the highest of honours.
The TSO is getting ready for their first trip to Israel, where they’ll be playing at Sherover Hall in Jerusalem and the Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv — home to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Lisiecki will join the orchestra as they travel on to Vienna, Regensburg, Essen and Prague. Russian violinist Maxim Vengerov and Canadian soprano Carla Huhtanen will also join the TSO as featured soloists during the trip. For more info on the trip, please visit the TSO website.
