Interview: Tom Green talks ‘Bethany’ film, stand-up comedy shows (Includes interview)

Regarding his horror film, Bethany, he said, “It was fun to do the role. I had never done a horror movie before, so I enjoyed it a lot. I had done a couple of roles that were a little bit more serious, so it was exciting to do. I’m really scared of horror movies, I can’t even watch them to be honest. I’m not sure I will be able to watch this.”

Green noted that he was honored to work with writer and director James Cullen Bressack. “It was great working with James. I’ve never worked with him before, and I really appreciate to be asked by a young filmmaker like him,” he said. “I like to support independent voices and people that are doing independent films like this. It was really cool.”

Each day, Green is motivated by his love for the work that he does. “I love getting up in front of the crowd, and my stand-up shows, and performing in front of audiences. I have great fans all over the world,” he said. “I feel very fortunate to have fans from all over the world who know me over the years, and have stuck with me. I always like to be there and perform live in front of them. It’s a real thrill and adrenaline rush. Doing a film like this is great, since a lot of my fans are fans of horror movies, so it is cool to give them something different.”

On May 18 and 19, Green will be performing his stand-up comedy shows at Caroline’s in New York. “It’s going to be a blast. I always love coming to Caroline’s,” he said. “I’m going to be pretty excited about that. I had a lot of fond memories in New York, since that is where I first moved from Canada to the United States. It is great to go there and perform for New Yorkers since they love their comedy up there. It’s going to be a good time.”

Regarding his plans for the future, he said, “I am working on a new studio album and I’m working like a mad-man, and I’m having a blast.”

For aspiring actors, he said, “Nobody is going to hand you your dreams and goals on a platter. You gotta get up every morning and work hard and don’t quit. It may take years to find the success that you are envisioning. You got to keep at it. Read a lot of books by other comedians and really understand the business,” he said. “It is a combination of hard work, talent and some luck. If you have two out of three of those things, you will get where you want to be.”

Tom Green defined the word success as “Having longevity doing what I love, having great experiences, travelling all over the world, and staying connected with my fans that have stuck with me.”
