Most recently, Gavin Lee performed on Broadway as Squidward Tentacles in SpongeBob SquarePants, for which he scored his second career Tony nomination. Prior to that, Lee played the role of Bert in Mary Poppins on Broadway, for which he was nominated for a “Best Actor in a Musical” Tony award.
Lee remarked in a press statement that he is “thrilled” to step into this role of the Grinch, the world renowned “bad boy” of the Christmas holiday season. After a father himself, he acknowledged that he knows first-hand the magic of introducing children to live theater.
The production features sets that were designed by John Lee Beatty and costumes that were designed by Robert Morgan. Both the sets and the costumes were inspired by the original Dr. Seuss book.
Matt August served as director of the 2018 production, with choreography by Bob Richard; moreover, it was originally created by three-time Tony award-winning director Jack O’Brien.
