Everyone’s just trying to survive in ‘The Gifted’ trailer (Includes first-hand account)

From popular comic books to an adored animated series to a lucrative movie franchise, it was only a matter of time before The X-Men were granted a live-action television series. Moving in the same direction as Logan, which featured new, adolescent mutants, and the dire future of their kind as speculated in the films proper, Fox and Marvel have developed a show with all new characters in a world in which special abilities are not an advantage. The first trailer for The Gifted provides a lot of information while only revealing a fraction of the story to unfold.

Andy (Percy Hynes White) and Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) are siblings with special abilities. While Lauren has harnessed her power over the elements, Andy has only just discovered his and is unsure of its potential. Unfortunately everyone gets a demonstration when he goes full Carrie White at a school dance while being bullied. It’s not long before the authorities are knocking on their door, requesting their parents (Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker) — one of whom locks up mutants for a living — to turn over their children. Their incident appears to trigger a mutant underground that comes together to try and help the family escape.

As noted, even though there’s an abundance of information in the nearly three-minute video, it all appears to likely be taken from the first few — if not just the first — episodes. The pilot was directed by Bryan Singer, who’s no stranger to the franchise, and there are rumours of a cameo by Anna Paquin, who played Rogue in the films and also happens to be Moyer’s former True Blood co-star and real-life wife. This trailer is very promising and will be a show to watch come the fall TV season.
