article imageReview: Chris Roach hysterical at Governor's Comedy Club at The Brokerage Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 18, 2018 in Entertainment
Bellmore - On August 17, acclaimed Long Island comedian Chris Roach headlined the Governor's Comedy Club at The Brokerage in Bellmore.
As an actor, Roach was known for playing Mott on Kevin Can Wait. The event was hosted by Carie Karavas, who was talented, bold and very funny in her own right. It was followed by a brief yet witty comedic set from Erica Spera.
Roach shared that he was taping this show live for SiriusXM, especially now that the "Kevin Can Wait money stopped coming in," after the show's cancellation. He shared that the sitcom was a "great experience."
He also spoke about his experience doing the ancestry DNA test, and shared the results with the audience. He poked fun at his wife, who is Latina, and noted that the gifts she gets him are "not so good," which include a gift certificate for a massage, which she doesn't want to do herself.
Roach thanked the owners of The Brokerage for installing the stage lights two inches from his head, which resulted in his sweating a lot through the evening. He has a towel next to him like a chunky singer would since he is going through "man-o-pause" in his middle age.
The actor also poked fun at his father, who used to be in the Marine Corps and in the transit police. These days, his father sings lullabies to his grandchildren, but growing up, Roach admitted that his father would sing a different form of lullaby to him (such as "where's my belt?"). He would also take him and the family on vacation to the Amish Country in Pennsylvania.
Roach also discussed his wife's obsession with Oprah and Dr. Phil, and he spoke about their experience during Hurricane Sandy (where they didn't have power for five days), where they would wind up talking to each other and working on a puzzle. He also discussed his coaching days, and he expressed his true feelings about dolphins.
He went on to thank the wait staff at The Brokerage for being "awesome," especially since they brought him another Heineken light, after he finished his first one on stage. All of his jokes were well-received by the Bellmore audience.
The Verdict
Overall, Chris Roach was sensational at the Governor's Comedy Club at The Brokerage. He is worth seeing live whenever he does his stand-up comedy shows. His set garnered an A rating. Equally noteworthy were Carie Karavas and Erica Spera, all of which gave Bellmore a night of comedy to remember.
