New characters highlighted in ‘Black Panther’ teaser trailer (Includes first-hand account)

While there’s always been movies, TV shows and animation to bring popular comic book heroes like Superman, Batman and The X-Men to the screen, there’s also been a reluctance to give the same attention to lesser known properties. However with the success of the previously unfamiliar Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, studios have been more inclined to take a chance on some other great stories. Next up is Marvel’s Black Panther, whose hero was first introduced in Captain America: Civil War.

After hundreds of years of searching for El Dorado, it appears all the treasure hunters were searching on the wrong continent. The lone survivor of a hunting party claims to have seen it in a small, isolated, technologically advanced African nation protected by a masked warrior — the Black Panther. After the death of his father and King of Wakanda, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns home to take his rightful place on the throne. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and Black Panther — is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk.

It looks like Marvel’s next origin story will be another hit. The trailer isn’t action heavy, balancing the brief fight sequences with scenes that both highlight the astounding imagery and new characters. The costumes are especially notable, melding traditional cultural attire and colours with superhero styles. Without revealing very much, this sneak peek revitalizes interest in the film and its agile protagonist announced early last year. The newest Marvel adventure, directed by Ryan Coogler, hits theatres in February 2018.
