Wong discussed the limited-edition Jurassic Doritos and their partnership with the film. Doritos now has dinosaur-size proportions, after they collaborated with Universal Studios’ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. “I am enjoyed it immensely. I have very few commercials in my career. This is an online promotion, and I am excited for it to be launched,” he said. “I am a fan of Doritos and I am proud of being in these Jurassic movies, so this all came together for me. These are 10-of-a-kind Doritos, and they are masterfully crafted,” he admitted.
Dr. Henry Wu (played by BD Wong), Jurassic World’s lead genetic engineer and the visionary mind behind the Indominous Rex, has created limited-edition Jurassic Doritos. These massive one-foot chips are available in the iconic Nacho Cheese flavor. These giant chips, infused with dinosaur DNA, will hatch from dinosaur eggs and will be shipped in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom prop-replica crates. “The character that I play in these movies is responsible for the cross-breading of DNA,” Wong said. “The idea that you could cross-bread a dinosaur and Doritos is absurd and hilarious, but fun and organic to the story of the movie. I enjoyed it,” he said.
Wong noted that one of the Doritos will be auctioned off on eBay for charity to benefit the American Red Cross (Hawaii chapter). “That is a very nice finishing touch to the equation for me,” he said.
He shared that he is a regular on the show Mr. Robot, and he has written a few things. “I have enjoyed writing in my downtime,” he said.
For aspiring actors, Wong said, “You need to believe in it 100 percent. I am one of those kids that really believed in this career. I never wavered from it. Acting was a calling for me, and something I really wanted to do from a very young age. I am extremely dedicated to it. There is a lot of disappointment wrapped up in this industry. People should only do acting if they really want to and they can’t think of anything else.”
Wong listed Jeffrey Wright from the HBO series Westworld as his dream acting partner. “I love Jeffrey Wright, and I would love to work with him,” he said.
Digital transformation of entertainment
On the impact of technology in the entertainment business, Wong said, “I have put a lot of effort of being in the moment and going with the flow, and embracing technology and new forms of entertainment. I see increased content on cable, and technology is a double-edged sword. I don’t know if things will calm down since there is so much content and so much competition that is very hard. As a viewer, it is hard for me to keep track of shows. It is good for actors in some ways.”
Wong continued, “Technology in itself is a good thing. I am into it, and I love it. When I did the Netflix movie, it will be released like a movie but it will show on Netflix, and it will gain its audience primarily that way. That is an interesting hybrid, and a new animal.”
He defined the word success as follows: “Success connotes trying to do something, and having that actually happen.” “I try to think of my life as a series of efforts of things that I am trying to achieve. That effort is a form of success in itself,” he said.
