Ribeiro is known for his portrayal of Carlton Banks on the hit NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and he is the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC.
The actor teamed up with Clorox to host a queso and guac-filled “”What the Mess” challenge, in an effort to celebrate the launch of new Clorox Bleach with CLOROMAX Technology. Two competitors put the power of that technology to the test with messy games such as the “Topping Toss,” “Taco Tower” and “Wall of Fortune.” The contestants faced challenges such as building an ultimate taco tower until it topples, throwing queso and guac-filled balls at targets and locating hidden clues on a wall covered in guacamole.
“Clorox came to me and asked if I would be a part of their new launch of CLOROMAX Technology, and we had a great time. We did the ‘What the Mess,’ which was like a game show that we did, where we had two bloggers that played these games with us, and we were making a gigantic mess, which was easily cleaned up with the new CLOROMAX Technology,” he said.
On his plans for the future, he said, “I’m still hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos and I’m having a blast here. We premiered on Sunday, and we have a new time slot at 8 p.m. EST, which has been fantastic. We are loving the partnership with Clorox. People will be able to go on their Facebook page to see our ‘What the Mess’ challenge, and it will be fun.”
He shared that his experience on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was “great.” “That show ended 25 years ago. That experience is long gone and done, but we had a great time on that show,” he admitted.
Digital transformation of entertainment industry
“Ultimately, it has changed the business through social media, and basically, things that you are able to do with graphics and it has allowed you to create a world that no longer existed. Obviously, you had to physically create those worlds before. You can go to outer space with a computer,” he said, about the digital transformation of the industry.
Regarding his use of technology, he said, “We have our smartphones, and technology allows us to go online. You can screen movies, and I use it for media.”
For aspiring actors, he said, “Be really good at what you do. Take class, go and study, and be truly knowledgeable in the art that you are trying to do, and the history in which it came from. That will give you at least the ability to compete with people that know what they are doing.”
On the key to longevity in the acting industry, he said, “being talented.” “A lot of people in this business get lucky, or they are beautiful and handsome and they don’t rely on being good at what they do. Learning their art and craft.”
Ribeiro defined the word success as “happiness.” “Doing what you love to do, and being happy doing it,” he concluded.
