Alexandra Daddario talks Kleenex, future, Steve Martin, Brad Pitt (Includes interview)

As an actress, Daddario has portrayed Annabeth Chase in the Percy Jackson film series, and she has played Blake Gaines in San Andreas, and Summer Quinn in Baywatch (opposite Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” and acting heartthrob Zac Efron). “I have been lucky to work with some great actors such as Zac Efron and ‘The Rock’,” she said.

When asked what motivates her every day, she said, “I love what I do, and I love my work. I love people, and I am fascinated by the things that people do. I love that I am in a position where I can empower women and myself, and I want to make a difference in the world in any way that I can.”

Daddario partnered with Kleenex Brand to help introduce a new way to get one’s hands and face clean: Kleenex Wet Wipes. “It’s actually a product I was using before they approached me about it. I love having an authentic relationship with a brand. I love them because I have a germophobe and I have this disgusting dog that I love,” she said. “Having a wipe, with no harsh chemicals, is great. I always keep some in my car, and I always travel with them. It has really been a staple in my life. It’s just a great product.”

She continued, “Young people can’t afford to be sick, and they can’t afford to be dirty. We have to put our best face forward every time. I believe Kleenex Wet Wipes make my life easier.”

On her future plans, Daddario said, “I would love to keep working. I am excited about what is going on in the world right now. I am excited about the platform that I have. It’s an exciting time for women in Hollywood and America. I feel very lucky that I can empower others, emotionally and financially. The world is changing, and it is really cool to be a part of that, and to be a part of a bigger story.”

Last summer, Daddario partnered with the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, where she traveled to Malawi to fight HIV and malaria. “I went to Africa last year, and I got to see firsthand what they are doing in Malawi. They are making huge effects with the community there. They are saving people’s lives. Elizabeth Taylor was an amazing woman and her estate finances all of the charity,” she said.

She listed Steve Martin and Brad Pitt as her dream male acting partners. “I love Steve Martin. He would be a dream to work with, and obviously, I love Brad Pitt,” she said.

For aspiring actors, she encouraged them to “work hard.” “Really love what you do, and don’t worry about what other people are doing. Otherwise, you are putting all your energy on things that don’t matter,. You have to focus on what you are doing, and work really hard,” she said.

Digital transformation of entertainment

On the impact of technology on the entertainment business, Daddario said, “It has changed it tremendously. You can look at Netflix as one example amongst many. The way we have made movies has changed, the way we finance movies has changed, and the way we build our careers has changed. The current movie model that we have has changed a lot, and it will change even more. It has empowered people to tell stories that they wouldn’t be able to tell. People are able to be authentic about themselves. You can put something out there, and millions of people can see it in an hour. That’s an incredible amount of power. I think as a young woman, I have had more control over my own career, and social media has empowered me. It empowers you to control your image.”

Throughout her career in acting, Daddario has earned three Teen Choice Award nominations (in 2010, 2015 and 2017 respectively). “It is exciting. It is so cool to be in this business and people pay attention. I am thrilled to be a part of things that young people love. I am very grateful and I feel very lucky,” she said.

Daddario defined the word success as “Being a good person and being happy.” “Success is surrounding yourself with good people that you love, focusing on the right things, and being grateful,” she said.
