London - A BBC investigation has alleged that London councils have been engaged in dirty tricks against motorists. These allegations are not new.
Indeed they are not, but they are more than credible, and the question that should now be asked is not are London councils engaged in these tactics but how many others the length and breadth of the country are doing the same thing?
This latest investigation was carried out by the BBC's Inside Out London programme, not the first time presenter Matthew Wright and his team have tackled this issue.
The basic details of the programme's allegations were reported by the BBC this morning with a short video.
Traffic wardens, parking wardens or whatever they are called this month have always been considered almost as low down the food chain as lawyers, but here the Inside Out London team speak - anonymously - to one traffic warden who has a conscience.
They speak too to a meat trader who was given a ticket when he should clearly not have been given one, and decided not to allow the matter to rest. The individual who ticketed him pleaded innocence - he hadn't been in the job long - but he didn't withdraw it.
Bromley Council is said to have made a staggering £5.7 million from parking fines last year. It is not clear if this is before or after paying their privatised mercenaries. Hackney Council made even more money. Worse than both these is Lambeth Council, which made £12 million, nearly double the previous year.
Naturally, the councils plead innocence, but the figures and the documentation the team have uncovered about illegal targets tell an entirely different story. The Minister responsible, Brandon Lewis, is unimpressed with their sophistry, and promised to take immediate action.
This programme is currently on BBC iplayer, but won't be for much longer. If you do miss it though, don't expect it to be the last one.
