NHL Trade Rumors: P.K. Subban to Edmonton Oilers?

With several quality young guns on the payroll, finding some help on the back line is a priority, but with the lack of wins over the last decade, its been hard for the front office to get some decent free agent talent to sign on the dotted line.

Several reports have surfaced lately, mostly ideas of what management could do with the fourth overall pick in June, but Bret Tasker of Fan Sided has suggested another approach, deal one of their young stars and add a draft pick or two and make a trade with Montreal to acquire P.K. Subban.

The 26-year-old has been linked in trades over the last couple of seasons, but after the year Montreal had on the offensive end of the ice, a trade now could actually benefit both teams moving forward.

Tasker has Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or Jordan Eberle, along with the team’s first round pick this year headed to the Canadiens for the star defender, and while it appears a high price to pay for just one player, it’s clear the Oilers must add a strong defender to take that next step forward in their rebuilding process.

Subban isn’t just a one trick pony as the former second round pick is very capable on the offensive end of the ice. With 278 points, which includes 63 career goals and that kind of versatility is just what Edmonton needs on and off the ice.

Edmonton has been searching for the last decade to find the right combination of players to finally breakthrough and make it back into the NHL Playoffs, but something is missing and a trade to acquire a player like Subban could be just what this franchise finally needs to take that step and it wouldn’t hurt creating some excitement with their fans.
