OneEleven to host fifth summer social (Includes interview)

The OneEleven Tech Summer Social is rapidly becoming one of the ‘must attend’ events on the Toronto technology scene. The social event plays a dual role, in celebrating Canada’s and Toronto’s expanding technology ecosystem, and with providing an opportunity for startup founders and team members, alongside technology experts, to create and cement connections.

Who is OneEleven?

OneEleven provides services, advice, office space, plus a vital sense of community, to small technology companies that have secured millions in revenue or funding and which are poised to grow and take advantage of the ‘digital city’.

The scaleup hub recently partnered with DXJournal to create the editorial series #ScaleStrategy, that highlights the kind of advice people can expect from OneEleven.

Bringing Toronto’s tech community together

According to Amy Stevenson, who is the Community Engagement Manager at OneEleven: “The OneEleven Tech Summer Social brings together tech enthusiasts, leaders, founders, influencers, and more within Toronto’s tech community for an evening of casual mingling and fun.” The attendees will have an opportunity to mix, talk and enjoy an open bar, food, and music.

The theme for 2018 is to bring “Cottage Country to the City”, which is a nod towards the urban vacationers and residents In Ontario, who have an affinity for the outdoors; something that stands in contrast to those who are engaged in city life. This means OneEleven will be “transforming the exclusive OneEleven Railyard, located behind our building at 325 Front St. W, with Muskoka chairs, cold drinks, music, and more”, Stevenson explains.

Emphasising the fun element and the opportunity to connect, Stevenson notes how the social will “serve as a celebration and acknowledgment of our community’s achievements while offering valuable networking opportunities with some of the city’s most influential tech leaders.”

The emphasis on collaboration and connections is important to note, especially for anyone weighing up whether to attend the social: “Founders who contribute to improving the health of the startup ecosystem also improve their own chances of success”, says Stevenson.

Networking is central to OneEleven’s ethos, which is why the organization additionally offers peer groups and founder forums, collaborative spaces that are designed to leverage the expertise and support of the collective community to build stronger, more resilient companies. As OneEleven expands globally the aim is to build strong connections between each hub across the world.

The social event also allows OneEleven to mark its own expansion in Canada’s leading technology city. The scale-up innovation hub has embarked on an expansion of Toronto headquarters, by 50,000 square feet. This reflects the greater demand for its services and the need to accommodate more scaling companies.

The OneEleven Technology Summer Social takes place at OneEleven Railyard in the hub’s Front Street space between 6:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
