The GoGo SqueeZ products in question have a best before date of between June 30 2016 to July 26 2016, and are products in the United States.
Michael Larroche, the founder and CEO of GoGo SqueeZ, explained the mold issue on the company’s website. He said GoGo SqueeZ was issuing the recall because it identified an issue in their recent production that led to the development of common mold, such as the type of mold that can form on fruit. He said the issue only affects a small number of GoGo SqueeZ pouches.
The statement on GoGo Squeez’s website said that the mold was tested at an independent lab and an expert determined that the mold poses no known health risk. GoGo SqueeZ added that it knows that mold is gross and it doesn’t taste that good, and it doesn’t want its customers to have that kind of experience with its products.
Larroche’s statement also mentions how GoGo SqueeZ has been working with the FDA, and the company said it would keep its customers updated when they have new information.
A number of parents went over to GoGo SqueeZ’s Facebook page to ask the company to switch to clear pouches because this will allow people to see if there is any mold present.
Bill Marler, a food safety lawyer, said the focus should be on making sure that the same production mistakes are not repeated in the future.
