‘Vicious’ fox traps eight people in Cambridgeshire sports club

The animal was found lurking on June 27 when patrons were leaving Alconbury Sports and Social Club in Cambridgeshire. The fox terrorized people who tried to exit the club through the carpark.

Attempts to outfox the rogue animal failed. A woman was bitten when she tried to distract the fox with food. The fox chased a man on a bicycle causing him to fall and lose his glasses. Then, he used the bike to fend off the animal.

Even the pest control specialist, called to end the crisis, was chased back into his car. The animal was eventually captured and destroyed.

Club chairman Bruce Staines, who witnessed the scene, said he had “never seen anything like it.” Staines said he “tweaked his groin” fleeing the marauding animal when he tried to investigate, according to the BBC.

Club members ended up barricaded inside the building and watched the fox on the CCTV system as it stalked outside.

While it seems incredible that a common red fox, which is no more than 25 pounds (11 kg), would cause panic, witnesses said the animal’s behavior was aggressive.

Staines said to The Hunts Post “When I told my wife she didn’t believe me. I had to show her the CCTV footage to prove it. It’s quite funny to watch now, but we are a family-orientated club and we can’t have dangerous animals running about.”

Fox attacks in England are rare, but not unprecedented. A fox climbed into the window of a Kent home and bit a one-month-old baby in 2013. Prior to that, other attacks on toddlers have been reported.
