David Cronenberg's 1986 film
The Fly is making a buzz again as it lands in Los Angeles morphed in an entirely new form (OK, I'll stop). Yes, The Fly is now an opera.
As
CBC.ca reports,
The Fly opened to mixed reviews in Paris but will be staged in L.A. starting Sept. 7. Placido Domingo conducts the production.
Cronenberg told the press recently:
love this opera. The more I hear it, the more I love it. Part of it is that it's a contemporary approach to opera, which is different from the classics. The more I see older operas, the more I like this one.
No surprise he would like his own opera, especially since a successful run will put money in Cronenberg's pocket.
First
Jerry Springer: The Opera, and now
The Fly...what's going on here? Are opera directors running out of ideas? Would you go see a man-insect singing arias while barbed hair begins to sprout out of his elbows?
