This really is deserving of a full article explaining and validating (or disproving) Hari's thesis, but I'm too busy right now to do so.
However, this article is really a can't miss.
Hari asserts that McCain has quietly developed an alternative to the UN which he calls the 'League of Democracies', "an alliance of countries the US labels democratic that can be used to legitimise US military actions."
Hari also makes note of the fact that McCain has done this silently for good reason. "Some 72 per cent of Americans want the UN to play a bigger role." Therefore if McCain publicly displayed his dislike (or hate, if Hari is correct) of the UN, it could well cost him a presidency.
Hari's article is far from pro-UN. He lashes out at the UN for its "serious imperfections", and then lists several of them.
Next Hari explains that despite these imperfections (which we should able to agree are common in each and every governmental organization, NGO... or really any human created governing-body) the UN does have a rich history of meaningful movements that have helped many people throughout the world.
Finally, Hari argues against McCain's proposed 'League of Democracies' due to McCain's personal bias on various sovereignty issues, which would surely guide this league.
I can't help but think that this article indirectly suggests that McCain has ambitions beyond simply governing the American people - that just like many other presidents before the present date whom have disregarded the Monroe doctrine and driven the US economy into the ground in favour of stockpiling military assests, all the while jeopardizing international stability - McCain will insist on US global domination.
Again, Hari's article is a real must read whether your pro-Obama or pro-McCain (and especially if you're pro-McCain)
