PM Harper Hurts Canada-China Relations by Skipping Olympics, Chretien Charges

Jean Chretien may have left the the Prime Minister's Office years ago but he's still vocal about Stephen Harper's apparent missteps. Speaking to the Canadian Bar Association recently, Chretien said Harper bruises relations between Canada and China when he decided to skip the Olympics in Beijing. Also, Harper's full backing of Tibet's Dalai Lama didn't do any favours to the China-Canada relationship.

Chretien told reporters: "We are at the bottom of the ladder in terms of having any influence with China."

The former PM went to explain the fallout of Harper's no-show at the Olympics:
There is always consequences in what you do. If you think that attacking them would be positive, what do you gain? It is the second biggest economy in the world – and in 50 years, it will be the biggest economy. Suddenly, you break the bridge. It would be so easy to be there (at the Olympics).

Amazing that Chretien can still talk. Now, what "bar" was he speaking at. After a few glasses of excellent wine, PET used to do a good impersonation of Chretien.

He's so kissy, kissy with a particular butt that he probably sought G.W.'s advice first. And horse trader that he is, G.W. figures less Asian trade with Canada means more for the good ole U.S. of A.
