The Corinthians were confused about spiritual gifts, so Paul devoted three chapters (1 Corinthians 12-14) to the subject, telling them their gifts were for the edifying (building up) of the body of Christ . As Warren Wiersbe points out in his book, Be What You Are, "Some of the Corinthians thought that spiritual gifts were toys to play with, so they were using them in a most unspiritual manner and bringing division and disgrace to the church."
But, as Wiersbe went on to observe, "Each believer has at least one spiritual gift, and as good stewards, we must use our gifts in the power of the Lord and for the glory of the Lord. Let all things be done unto edifying."
One of the best ways to discover our spiritual giftedness is to find out what we most enjoy doing for the Lord. Is it singing? Teaching? Visiting? Evangelizing? Calling on the sick? Working with infants or children? Serving on committees or leadership boards? Praying? Giving?
Whatever our gifts, it's not an ability to flaunt or a toy to play with. It's a tool to use for God's glory and for the building up of His church.
Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn.
