Internet Security: Whats the way forward?

Yesterday at exactly 10:54am western time a so called "Turkish Hacker" hacked in to Kabissa servers and had all the websites on Kabissa hosting space glaring with a black screen with a gif of the Turkish flag with an image of a man.
It was horrible.
The website of the organisation I volunteer with was one of the victims of this incident. It was so sudden and unfortunate.
I had to work together with the technical support team and fellow workmates to see to it that we get rid of the pages.
Logged into the FTP and everything had been changed! I was made to believe that this Turkish hacker is a Bot. A bot is some program which is designed and keeps on roaming around looking for lose firewalls for it to take chance of and fabricate everything.
For some reason I think these kind of hackers have an idle mind. I mean there is a lot to do about technology, need for very many programs to be designed and a lot of work to do to change the world. But then some one decides to be malicious just like that, does something which will not make then even be paid! Thats really mean.
I dont mean that we were very bothered with the Hacker or whatever he calls him self but then I just want to create awareness of how you can get rid of him:
First of all when your site is hacked, the configuration.php file will be changed and then very many other files in your FTP directory will also be changed.
So when you try to open your website and it displays something funny or a page like what I have described earlier, just log in to your FTP and look up the configuration.
The good news is we got rid of him with the generous support of Kabissa and now the websites are up and running.
Message is make sure you tighten the security of your site right from the permissions to the administrator log in. Your hosting company will pretty much provide the security you need though.
Other than that, the work starts with us the Internet users, lets try not to be malicious cause that does not pay us in anyway and please DO NOT experiment your codes on other people's work cause that makes no sense at all.
P.S: The internet is OUR's not yOUR's
