I make it a habit to read news articles on a major news web site. One of my favorite things to do is to read all the comments people put in association with the articles. To my surprise, most of the conversations end up being about religion.
The most disturbing to me is the amount of people that have a true hate toward Christians. Seeing this made me question why? Why do so many Americans look down on Christians and have this indescribable hate towards them. I started really getting my nose into articles and doing research to find out why, just to find out that I didn't need to do any "research" at all. All I needed to do was keep reading all the comments on these news articles. The answer was right there in front of my face.
In these comments, I would see things like, "The world would be a better place if we could rid Christians of the world", and then in the same comment section, someone proclaiming to be a Christian would say "God is not ever going anywhere and you will burn in hell". Do you see it? Do you see the hate that the proclaimed Christian had toward the non-believer? How sad. How disappointing. This is just one example, if you were to look at these things you will see hundreds, if not thousand of these examples all over the Internet.
We as Christians have a duty. What is the greatest commandment God gave us? To love one another. Is not the greatest commandment the downfall of Christians today?
I can tell you that for me, it is so easy to love the ones we like, but it is not so easy to love the ones we don't. But God has commanded us to love one another. What about strangers? People we really have no opinion of? The ones that make comments on web site news articles and alike? This is where Christians have a good opportunity to show their love toward others and be a good witness of Christ's love for us.
God tells us not to be sharp with our tongues. In today's "Internet world", I would think the same applies when you are typing. Christians are to "stand firm" in their faith, but we can do all of that without such arrogance and hatred that seems to be spewing out of our keyboards these days.
