It's always refreshing to read an article full of tips on how to best eat locally. One of the authors of the 100 Mile Diet offered his tips on how to deal with fresh produce, farmers' markets and cooking techniques.
Some of my favourite tips from James MacKinnon?
• Arrive at a farmer's market early because the best-priced foods can sell out quickly.
• Don't waste food; use the stalks from cauliflower and broccoli, and the carrot tops for your stew or broth
• Eat smaller meals. Many locavores report that, over time, their meal sizes shrink and they also do less snacking.
