Purpose of the oil spill stories

I recognize I am writing a lot of these on the oil spill, and they are specials because I sit in prolonged meetings daily.
Another, and more important reason, is this event affects not just Canada or the US but potentially the world because the environment, scientists have found, in one place can impact the environment in other parts of the world. Furthermore, if they don't clean this up fast, the impact can be all around the coast of Florida and carried by winds and water places they have trouble estimating now.
The notion of oil dependency is something big in the minds of the bureaucrats. Tone of voices during meetings and the changing messages are disturbing.
In my opinion they don't know what to do and are trying everything they can, as the whole world has been put on notice about this.
I don't want to steal the thunder of others on their stories, but this one is so serious I worry daily if I do enough, too much or what. I have been spending time even in the morning early to check press releases that come in, phone calls returned or not and sit in long meetings.
I wish I had all of you in my hip pocket listening, as you too would be compelled to speak.
