On Jun 2, 2008 I was stopped by a Farmington Hills police officer and given a ticket for driving with an expired license plate on my car. At the time I told the officer it wasn't my fault it was my husband's fault. He agreed with me and said it is always the husband's fault. Right then and there I knew he was a very smart man.
I wrote a blog asking those here since I was now a lawbreaker was I also a criminal. Most of you stated that I was indeed a criminal now.
Today I had to appear in 57TH District Court in Farmington Hills Michigan.
There were three that were called before me. The first one I did not hear what his "crime" was. The next two had exceeded the speed limit and had to pay a fine for the crime they had committed.
I was then called to come forward past the swinging doors and had to state my name. Standing next to me was the officer who had given me the ticket. I had showed him the registration showing that the license plate was now up to date.
He stated to the Magistrate that he was dismissing all charges as the license plates were now up-to-date and that I had stated it was not my fault but my husband's fault. The Magistrate another very smart man also said "Yes mam, it is always the husband's fault"
He then said that he was giving a jail sentence to which I quickly replied "Not to me, to my husband" He assured me that was who he was sentencing and asked how long I thought the sentence should be. After a short moment of thought I told him I thought a month should do. He then said he was sentencing him to a month in jail.
I don't know what was taking place behind me but as everyone in the court room started laughing the Magistrate said "I am only kidding. Case dismissed you may now leave."
I thanked him and the officer and left the court.
So I am now glad to say that I am no longer a criminal.
