Today, Cleveland Cavaliers guard
LeBron James won his second straight
MVP award. As we speak, his squad is preparing to face the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. NBA fans are expecting James to crush the Celtics and ease their way into the Finals after beating either Atlanta or Orlando.
Yes, James deserves this MVP award. His stat line alone is wowzers: 29.7 points per game, 8.6 assists per game, 7.3 rebounds per game. Throw in an average 1 block and 1 steal per game and you have one of the best basketball players in the world.
I correct myself -- THE best basketball player in the world.
James has carried the Cavs on his young shoulders. Remember, this kid is only 26, and he's never won an NBA finals. Heck, he hasn't competed in a Finals series yet.
In his sixth pro year in the NBA, James is facing enormous pressure to elevate his team to the next level. A championship trophy should be James' main goal, now that he's proven himself as MVP two years in a row. In fact, the NBA needs James to win this year's Finals. The NBA market needs another hero.
"The only reason I do what I do on the court is to compete for an NBA championship," he
said after receiving the MVP award. "I understand that, until I win that, I won't go down as one of the greatest players to play this game. Individual accolades definitely come into account, but team is what it's all about. "
And we look forward to your journey towards greatness, LeBron. You're almost there.
