Tracking

Issue:
I've noticed my $$ going up without any new views or votes on current articles. Understandable that views votes on older articles might drive that process. But... very difficult to keep track of without keeping track of the views and votes on all articles.

Question:
Would it be advantageous for the CJ's to have in their My Account pages a place where all of the most current views and votes are kept?

It would for me I believe, it would point out to me what is interesting to readers who didn't pick it up the first time around. (other than the most obvious reader magnets sex, celebrity and blood)

Award winning title might be something like:

Sex Triangle Involving Madonna, Richard Simmons & (Guess Who) Busted for Drug Party Slaying

Also, in the categories for blog entries wouldn't it be appropriate to have a category "CJ'ism"

    Hi Gar,

Your earnings may go up if you get action on your older articles. You aren't earning money based on what you write today alone, so having a good stable of quality articles can earn you money even weeks after they are published.

If you look through your "My Account" section you can see a breakdown of views and votes and comments so just pay attention to your articles written over the last month, not just today. It should give you an idea of what is popular because many people will find you through searching the Web and visit an older article of yours.

As for the category of "citizen journalism" -- this is something we will consider however we only add new categories if we know they will be filled regularly. Do you think yourself and others would publish in this category often?

Frequency? Probably not, at least for myself.

OK Gar...Instead, I would suggest you join the Citizen Journalist Group on DigitalJournal.com and you can publish news about Citizen Journalism whenever you like and all group members are notified by email.

That is probably a better solution to that issue.

As to the other issue of tracking what gets hit, I took another look at the My Account tabs. there are areas where I can look to see what I've been looking at, voting for and commenting on.

What I was wondering was if it wouldn't be possible to get just a list of Most Recently Viewed of all the articles written by an individual CJ (such as myself).

Although it's possible that what I asking is already there and I'm just expereincing brain flatulence to a degree which won't allow me get where I'm going.

Also as I sit here thinking about it, it could involve a major amount of code to put into effect for what might be of use to very few who could use it.

    It was just a thought.

I will talk to my colleague Alex Chumak about this Gar, but I would imagine this would be too much. It is a lot of programming, but more importantly, this would slow down the site a lot. We always have to think much bigger than one user because if we track what articles are getting viewed now and show every single CJ that in their accounts it's an enormous amount of live data to sort. Think about it, if we get 20,000 or 30,000 pageviews in a day, we'd be sorting a huge amount of information.

So I would imagine that is quite an implementation, but we'll keep you posted.

I had a feeling it might be a lot of code to program, and would take a lot of sorting on a continuous basis, but as I said, it was it was just a thought.
