I Love the Word Articulate

What is the definition of articulate?
According to Merriam-Webster:
"Main Entry: 1ar·tic·u·late
Pronunciation: \är-ˈti-kyə-lət\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin articulatus jointed, past participle of articulare, from articulus
Date: 1586
1 a : divided into syllables or words meaningfully arranged : intelligible b : able to speak c : expressing oneself readily, clearly, or effectively ; also : expressed in this manner."
Since when did this become a bad word?
I can semi-articulate my point, sometimes in text and sometimes in voice but I'm 46 year old male that does much better in type than in verbal intercourse, at times.
I'm of Spanish, Italian and Irish descent but I do not get offended being referred to as a Spic, Goombah or Mic although from behind the stereotypes I'll articulate your ass before you even see it coming!
Our Country is not just black and white, it's a mixture of all race and religion, the privileged and the poor with an ever shrinking middle class. I know It's wise to look at the past to avoid making similar mistakes but at the same time we need to keep an eye on the present while all the while shaping our future.
I consider myself as a free thinker but when in our Country we have to parse every word we say in order not to offend any particular segment of our society, I have to say enough is enough.
I'm a political junkie and I realize, words matter but come on guys! When the national conversation turns to what someone says while ignoring what that someone does we just hurt ourselves. Everyone misspeaks at times.
I am a supporter and very proud of our President but I believe that even though he is our first black President, he should not be judged by the color of his skin but by the task at hand while keeping in mind the shade of our times.
Left or right up or down we are all one. Americans! I have my views and strong convictions but it just tares me apart to see how our Nation is so divided, so spiteful that we are becoming blind to the truth.
The truth being, destruction comes from within as long as we enable it.
If we were all willing to articulate with honesty I believe our Country and the world would be a better place.
I'm sorry! What was I talking about? :]
