Well, ok, I'm wrong...Not very wrong...More like I was looking at something from far away & now I am filling in details...

So the above link shows a huge resort "Opening in 2010" , where? Haiti, on a peninsula just north & west of Port au Prince...
See, I was looking for a major piece of construction just before the earthquake to identify a trigger...
Serenity resorts looks like a good guess...Huge development, right timing, probable trigger...
Take a look at the link site- by the way the developers are from Kuwait...Gotta figure they have experience starting earthquakes...
Looks like these religious guys go around building ridiculously big developments near to countries they want to destroy by earthquake or other disturbance...
Guess they found Haiti to be not to their liking...Hence the decision to build the Serenity resorts which may have triggered this January 13, 2010 earthquake in Haiti...(wonder if the Kuwaiti Taliban are celebrating? Champagne anyone? Hmmm...They don't drink? Guess they'll be passing around the hookas then- they don't seem to stand on ceremony when it comes to drugs...)

Why are we continuing to dig deep into our earth's crust, when we know that inevitably an earthquake will occur?
I'd write more, but I don't think it's necessary...
p.s.(re: the picture) USA-193 an American spy satellite was shot down by an American missile, on purpose, (above the North Pacific Ocean) Feb. 14, 2008... April 17, 2008 was the earthquake in Illinois...It's a longshot, but it's the only trigger event I can see for that one...Hmmm...That's ridiculous! But interesting...here is a more likely correlation...From wikipedia on Chicago's tallest buildings under construction-
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Tower undergoing a height expansion in April 2008

Heck, Pick any of those buildings as a possible trigger for the 2008 Illinois earthquake...God knows a seismologist could tell them they are playing with fire...But apparently they are not talking to God, nor to seismologists in Illinois...or they would suspend all high rise construction, forever...
That won't stop currently built high rises from setting off tremors though...We have seen from the Taipei 101 example, that even after the big 2004 tsunami, earthquakes keep happening...Same building, same problem...Like a criminal who keeps committing crimes...The problem doesn't go away after the first time, nor does looking away make it go away...
Would tearing down a high rise stop the tremors? Well, it certainly would take the weight pressure off the earth's crust...

The link above leads to a blog post which contains a PDF file, dealing with GroveCanada's notes on how we got 15K relocation money for our neighbour who was being evicted from her rental home of 30 years so that developers could build an extreme high rise condominium building...
Though this may sound peripheral, in actual fact, if Canadian ask for relocation monies every single time they are asked to leave their rental dwelling, then developers of extreme high rises will have to think twice about building...Think about it, if every evicted tenant got at least 15 thousand dollars before moving, then perhaps we can stop the proliferation of extreme high rises in our country...
I write Canada, because other countries have already established minimum relocation stipends- in New York it's already $60,000.00, & that's American currency...
Don't leave without a fight & some money in your pocket...The only way to stop the building of extreme high rises is to make it unprofitable- & in turn, we will prevent further deep digging induced earthquakes...
Ok, not the only way...But one way...
You will read in the PDF file on the blog link, how we tried a multiplicity of strategies, before figuring out an approach...
