Calmly but in great detail, Representative Dennis J. Kucinich stood alone on the House floor for almost five hours, Monday June 9th, reading on C-Span a precisely documented indictment for the impeachment of George W. Bush in 35 separate articles. Yet none of our newspapers or TV stations even acknowledged this happened with the single exception of Keith Olbermann’s Countdown on MSNBC. A House clerk read it all again into the night on C-Span with no publicity in order to allow a quiet burial into the Judiciary Committee as occurred with Kucinich’s resolution to impeach Cheney in November of 2007.

The reasons the Democrats, like Republicans, who have sworn to support and defend the Constitution, are ignoring all of the lies, crimes and brazen illegal acts committed is almost primarily pure politics.

The media does not want to disturb its endless repetition of the election horse race through which they can claim immunity to partisanship. But burying the evils of the Bush administration from the people is not just convenience or politics. It is complicity in these crimes.

Members of the House and Senate knew or have known of the acts committed in their name: the torture, surveillance, thousands of deaths, unbridled no bid cost plus contracts, mercenaries under no legal controls. Saying there was no time three years in a row no longer cuts it as an excuse as more and more proof is revealed, in published memoirs or whistleblower accounts.

Representative Robert Wexler, Florida Democrat, who publicly called for impeachment hearings this spring, immediately co-sponsored Kucinich’s resolution June 10th. Representatives Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Sam Farr (D-CA) also signed on to the resolution. More co-sponsors are expected. Despite media blackout, web sites committed to bringing accountability back to US government got the word out to the grassroots through e-mail and blogs.

The impeachment resolution came four days after a June 5th Senate Select Intelligence Committee reported the Bush administration knew it was putting out propaganda, and not the truth in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq.

Advocates continue to demand accountability of the executive branch by impeachment or prosecution, despite the desire of both party leaders to bury the resolution for impeachment completely. But the Judiciary Committee has announced that Scott McClellan will testify under oath next week and may soon enforce their subpoenas to bring Josh Bolton and Harriet Miers to the stand.

Mary Ellen Marino was a dedicated observer to the 1974 impeachment process, which is remarkably familiar as the Bush administration finds its inner circle revealing the truths of a power and secrecy obsessed White House.

Scott McClellan is poised to be a John Dean and out Cheney, Libby and Bush on the war propaganda and the treasonous release of Valerie Plame’s identity to squelch her husband’s revelations.

George Tenet’s memoir revealed that he perjured himself by denying two meetings with Bush in Crawford, TX before the criminal negligence around 9/11. Below are some of the less well known subjects documented:

Article VI Invading Iraq in Violation of the Requirements of HJRes114

Article VII Invading Iraq Absent a Declaration of War

Article XV Providing Immunity from Prosecution for Criminal Contractors in Iraq

Article XVI Reckless Misspending and Waste of U.S. Tax Dollars in Connection With Iraq and US Contractors

Article XX Imprisoning Children

Article XXV Directing Telecommunications Companies to Create an Illegal and Unconstitutional Database of the Private Telephone Numbers and Emails of American Citizens

Article XXVII Failing to Comply with Congressional Subpoenas and Instructing Former Employees Not to Comply

Article XXVIII Tampering with Free and Fair Elections, Corruption of the Administration of Justice

Article XXIX Conspiracy to Violate the Voting Rights Act of 1965

Article XXXI Katrina: Failure to Plan for the Predicted Disaster of Hurricane Katrina, Failure to Respond to a Civil Emergency

Article XXXIII Repeatedly Ignored and Failed to Respond to High Level Intelligence Warnings of Planned Terrorist Attacks in the US, Prior to 911

We must demand that our Congress act and that the Constitution is upheld. If we fail, we are doomed to have these actions repeated by future Presidents. The impeachment clause was written to prevent executive overreaching and to maintain balance between the three branches of government now totally destroyed. Deliberate violation of law requires punishment.

We must also demand that the media do their job to report news. It is outrageous to have almost a complete blackout of these charges a one day after the Minneapolis Media Reform Convention appealed for an open and critical media to bring us the news we need to use. Read the complete Kucinich text for yourself at Bush Articles of Impeachment.

Call your Congress member and Senators and Chairman John Conyers of the Judiciary Committee to insist on immediate open hearings on these charges: 1.800.828.0498. More toll-free phone numbers via the Capitol Switchboard are available at Call Congress.

You can submit a letter to the Judiciary Committee at Contact U.S. House Judiciary Committee.

We have 2½ months to hold hearings before Labor Day.
