Updated June 30th — IT'S AMAZING HOW A SMARMY LINE TOSSED OFF BY A SMALL MIND can inspire one beyond such a little thing, but we must posture and pontificate, mustn't we?
@Mr Garibaldi
Political posturing, pontificating, and wrangling?
Well, first, the original entry is updated now with more information at
ImpeachThem.com1958
Would you like more reasons to impeach? How about
136,298 American reasons to impeach? Let's add
1,222,000 Iraqi reasons to impeach.
In the United States, you see, the constitution is
the law of the land. The
Magna Carta, and
habeas corpus, which actually predates it, are the foundation of U.S. democracy. When an officer of the United States --- y'know, Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Mukasey, Gonzales, Tenant, et al, ad infinitum, ad nauseam, ad agency --- shreds habeas corpus, violates domestic laws, violates international laws, violates the constitution itself,
that is a criminal action. Criminal actions need to be held accountable in a court of law.
There are many reasons to prosecute the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. The 35 Articles of Impeachment put forward by Rep. Kucinich could easily expand to as many as 60 articles.
As this publishes there are 219 days remaining in the Bush administration, so many people, like our incisive friend here above, say "Get on with REAL issues." There is no more pressing issue facing our commonwealth than the documented violations of our domestic and international laws -- indeed of our constitution itself -- by President Bush, Vice President Cheney and their administration.
Robert Wexler, the Florida Democrat who publicly called for impeachment hearings this spring, immediately co-sponsored Kucinich’s resolution June 10th. Representatives
Lynn Woolsey (D-CA),
Barbara Lee (D-CA),
Maurice Hinchey (D-NY),
Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and
Sam Farr (D-CA) also signed on to the resolution. More co-sponsors are expected. Along with Mr. Kucinich, these people are the most exemplary members of our congress, and they will certainly be joined by more co-sponsors of H Res 1258 over the next weeks.
All Americans should be proud of how serious they take their oath of office to preserve, protect and defend the constitution. By their stands in demanding that none is above the law and each person is accountable for his actions, yes even the highest office holders in the land, they are doing their legal duty as officers of the United States.
Despite media blackout, web sites committed to bringing accountability back to US government got the word out to the grassroots through e-mail and blogs.
All citizens should support the bill,
House Resolution 1258, to impeach President Bush, as well as H Res 799 to impeach Vice President Cheney.
The 35 articles of impeachment brought forward offer enormous substantial documentation of the criminal actions of the Bush administration. And the articles don't cover near all of the violations; a full accounting of impeachable offenses can easily grow to as much as 60 articles of impeachment against Bush.
So far 12 states have introduced resolutions to impeach Bush and Cheney: California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Texas, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.
As of Saturday afternoon, in a live poll on now at MSNBC,
out of 706,968 votes cast,
629,202 people vote for impeachment, an astounding rate of 89% demanding accountability, with
only 8.8% voting the president should not be impeached. (See
MSNBC LIVE POLL - Should Bush be impeached?) By our conservative estimate, an additional five million Americans have signed petitions calling for impeachment. New Jersey Impeach Groups has chapters in the north, central and south regions of our state, with over 1,000 registered members. As each day passes, more people express support for impeachment.
The representatives sponsoring 1258 are not only upholding the oath of office, they're in the mainstream.
As of Saturday, June 14th, the Bush administration has 219 days remaining in office. That's plenty of time to attack Iran, or even steal a presidential election. Each of us has an obligation to see our laws are obeyed, because there is no statute of limitations on justice or on crimes against the people of our Untied States.
We're a country of laws, and we're a law and order country. The real business of our country now is law and order. All should support the principled demand to respect our laws all the way.
