Johns Hopkins challenges chemotherapy
I could have just linked, but since recipients are asked to share the article I thought it worth presenting as received. Doubtless, cancer is one of the greater obstacles to achieving old age.
copy:
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY ('TRY', BEING THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHN HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY
Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins:
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumour size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumour destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc. are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soymilk, cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 deg. F (40 C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water, it is best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, so avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Centre as well.
Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.
This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life

I hate to rain on anybody's parade, but this sounded dubious enough for me to do some googling. While some of it makes sense, most of it is the kind of stuff that comes from so-called "alternative medicine" sites. There are dozens of copies of this all over the web, but the ones I checked didn't have any original source. Then I checked it out on snopes.com. Here's what I found.
"The "Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins Hospital" quoted above has been forwarded via e-mail as a preface to another piece (about the supposed dangers of using microwave ovens to heat food stored in plastic containers) also falsely said to have originated with Johns Hopkins. Neither article was issued by (or has any connection to) the Johns Hopkins university or hospital, and Johns Hopkins has disclaimed the contents of both.
Of the "Cancer Update" e-mail (most of the information contained within which is of the "quack" variety), Johns Hopkins says:
An email falsely attributed to Johns Hopkins describing properties of cancer cells and suggesting prevention strategies has begun circulating the Internet. Johns Hopkins did not publish the email, entitled "Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins," nor do we endorse its contents. For more information about cancer, please read the information on our web site or visit the National Cancer Institute's web site at www.cancer.gov."

I couldn't open the first link you provided, Connie.
It remains, always, for us to attempt to sort the wheat from the chaff and, while false and/or mistaken attribution may detract from the message, it is not to say that the message is without much truth. Undeniably, there are some among those who deal in the conventional treatments of cancers who feel threatened by the alternative treatments and who will yell, "Charlatan!" whether or not justified.
-
I copied the link exactly as it was, but if you click on it, you can see that the period, the quote mark and the slash should be removed.
Anyway, neatly done as an end run around the essential point. In words of no more than three syllables: the piece that you and hundreds of other uncritical people are promoting is a complete fake.
Claiming the backing of a prestigious medical establishment for unproven methods of prevention or cure for a serious disease could potentially cost people their lives. But that's less important than clinging to your beliefs about a conspiracy against alternative treatments.
-
They will never eradicate Cancer - because it is big business, and it keeps the population under control.
If you have Cancer..."alternative medicine" is the way to go, unless you want to die slowly and painfully.
Doctors DO NOT treat the cause.
I believe 100% there is a conspiracy against alternative treatments, and I have recently witnessed it first hand....
After my Mother passed away in November, I researched all of her pills.
Why would doctors be giving a Cancer patient immune system suppressants?
Why would doctors put people on Morphine patches that kill people? (they have now been recalled)
GHL, sometimes there are conspiracies honey. Its time to open up a little bit.

...and great article skeptikool.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW WHATS REALLY GOING ON.

My stepfather died despite not going conventional and seeking "alternative treatments." Cancer is just a shitty disease. I do not understand why she would be given immune suppressants though, some of those have been known to cause cancer if used too often. Morphine is typically given to people who are terminal to ease the pain because if they are going to die they aren't going to need to worry about addiction.
As far as conspiracy against alternative treatments, Phree, no conspiracy as we would look at it, more like an outright war. Some treatments not approved by the FDA for nefarious reasons could treat cancer. I might be remembering incorrectly but there was a drug that we could only get from Canada for treatment.
-
Actually, if you read my comment again I said Morphine patches, which the F.D.A. recalled. My Mom died within 24 hours of changing to the patch.
As far as conspiracy against alternative treatments, Phree, no
You know how many times I have seen that argument... "no conspiracies here phree".
So far, thats all I've seen though. The words. No offense Sam, but I am not a stone...I change my mind all the time. My opinion is always based on the evidence I have seen, and sometimes that changes.
I consider myself a freethinker (you probably already know that), and I try to always make decisions based on that philosophy.
Freethought is a philosophical viewpoint that holds that beliefs should be formed on the basis of science and logic and should not be influenced by emotion, authority, tradition, or any dogma. The cognitive application of freethought is known as freethinking, and practitioners of freethought are known as freethinkers.
Phree = Phreethinker, Phreedom fighter, Phreespeach protector (abuser?? ;)) and Phree-for-dinner anytime.

I was tempted to include in my comment that this article seemed more appropriate for the conspiracies group. I refrained out of politeness. Seems I needn't have worried.
Doctors make mistakes. Researchers make mistakes. Pharmaceutical companies want profits. Most of the standard treatments carry risks and are potentially dangerous. Those are all facts. None of them adds up to a conspiracy. But people see what they want to see, especially if they need some way to cope with the trauma of their own or a loved one's disease.

@ phree
GHL, sometimes there are conspiracies honey. Its time to open up a little bit.
phree, honey, you need to get out the Windex and clean the smoke scum off your screen. Sweetcheeks, I (Carolyn) am GHL, not Connie M (catana).
phree, puddin, listen, if you can reach back in your long term memory, you'll recall that I am probably the only one in this convo (whether I'm actually in it or not!) who actually has cancer, has had the all the options listed and had to make the God awful choices of what to take and what not to take. I am a person who was told point blank by more than one cancer specialist "chemo will kill you", had morphine drips stuck in her arm (you see, they tell you, if you are in pain, you can't get well so it is only for "your own good" that you take it! fortunately it had one of those buttons that the patient has to push to dispense it and after three days of them trying to cajole me into taking it, and me not giving myself any, they took the machine away).
Connie, this is a debate that is going on even within the most prestigious cancer treatment facilities, been there, done that and got the scars to prove it. The cancer itself is not what kills most people, it is the cure that does it more often than not. However, what most people will not admit is that in most cases, the cancer would have eventually killed the person. However, surgery, chemo and radiation all kill healthy cells in your body and weaken your immune system to dangerous if not fatal levels.
-
Those are all facts. None of them adds up to a conspiracy.
For one I am not sure you really understand what a conspiracy means.
A conspiracy is two or more people planning to commit a crime.
When YOU FAIL to disassociate the word conspiracy with the word theory, you are in fact a victim of propaganda and social engineering.
You said...
Pharmaceutical companies want profits
So there is no possibility that they would conspire to gain profits?
Have you ever had a team of doctors pushing you into using a treatment (radiation) that they already told you won't do anything?
Have you ever had a team of doctors give you dirty looks when you bring up DCA or alternative therapies?
Have you ever had a team of doctors ignoring your questions about natural remedies, treatment of the causes rather than the symptoms?
Have you ever had a team of doctors kissing your ass when you discover that they overdosed some you love...twice?
Have you ever heard a doctor say "I can't talk about that?"
How long has this War on Cancer been going on? 50 years or so?
Think about things with an OPEN mind, forget what you THINK you know and began again.
-
Oops sorry GHL
-
phree, just for the record, I totally agree with you on a lot of your points and would just like to add the following:
Pharmaceutical companies are in it for the money and look at what is happening in our world, we've over-medicated ourselves to the point where there are all these so-called "superbugs" that don't have any cures (or are very difficult to cure) so that all of us, even those of us who choose and have chosen over the years not to pump antibiotics into our bodies are the ones who are going to pay for it when we get one of these bugs.
Yes, I've had a doctor give me a 10-20% chance to survive (does that qualify?) and when I suggested something a little out of the ordinary he was, fortunately for me, receptive.
Yes, the doctors have given me dirty looks over AM therapies but only asked that one week prior to my surgery I stop everything and one week prior to my radiation, the same.
No, I didn't ask my cancer specialists about AM's, there really was no point and I didn't feel like getting into an argument with them.
Yes, I've been overdosed by a nurse who totally f**ked up with one of my so-called "preventative" (it was a blood thinner that is "mandatory" after an operation, she gave me ten times what you are supposed to get) medicines ... needless to say, it was not mandatory for me to take it for the remainder of my hospital stay.
Look, it is not good telling people what YOU think is right, it is only good to tell them to do what THEY think is right. Doctors are not always right in their treatment plans. We should not all be treated the same, and should not have to go with the "cookie cutter" approach. Every one of us is different and should ask questions, lots of questions, always take someone with you when you consult a specialist so they can write down everything that the doctors is telling you, always go to a specialist with a list of questions written down on a pad of paper (you always forget what it is that you wanted to ask) and research everything that they've told you, most especially what drugs they want to put into your body and what the side effects are going to be.
-
So often, and I don't claim it to be so in this case, the reference to conspiracy is introduced to stifle debate, but we should not be spooked by such tactics because, in truth, people will conspire.
Google: unnecessary surgery Here is one of several articles, from the NYTimes:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?sec=health&res=950DE3D61F3DF935A25757C0A96F948260
Again, not proof of conspiracy but evidence, perhaps, toward venal malpractice. Much at fault, is the unquestioning faith in one's doctor and the system.
