I have maintained on this site that a lawbreaker equals being a criminal. Well today I became a lawbreaker. I need you to decide if I am now a criminal.
Today on my way home after running a few errands following my doctor's appointment I was pulled over by a Farmington Hills policeman.
I was driving down a very busy highway and saw the police car pull onto Orchard Lake road where I was heading for home. He was in a different lane than I was at first. When a light turned red he pulled behind me and stayed there for a little while.
He then turned on those flashing lights and of course I assumed that I needed to get in the other lane as he was going to an emergency or maybe saw someone in the opposite lane committing a crime, like speeding, which is hard to do on Orchard Lake as the traffic is so heavy.
To my utter confusion he followed me over into that lane. So I pulled into a strip mall and he stayed behind me. Now I knew that I was not exceeding the speed limit, had my seat belt on and did not run a red light.
I rolled my window down, you make your crime worse and face the danger of having the officer draw his gun if you get out of the car, and asked what did I do?
He said "Mam your license plate expired on April 7." Of course I very politically said, "WHAT! How can that be as I thought license plates expired on your birthday."
He said "No mam not always. It can depend on when you bought or leased the car"
Of course I let him know that it was my husband's fault that it had expired. He replied, "Yes mam, it is always the husband's fault."
He went back to his car and I assume was running my name through his computer to see if I had committed any other crimes. He came back holding a ticket in his hand, which I very reluctantly took. As he was handing me the ticket he said that he had to write me up as the plate had expired almost two months ago.
I told him that I hope that he had put the ticket in my husband's name. Of course he replied that he couldn't do that as I was the one driving the car. He did tell me to go home and slap my husband around. I did give that some very serious thought as I was driving home.
The only problem with that would be if my husband would call the police on me and then I could be charged with spousal abuse. Criminals always are thinking of the next crime they might be able to commit and get away with.
So you decide is Cynthia T. [Picasso] now a criminal?
