Yep, I'm in that mood again. After using other sites such as NowPublic (yes that site that sold to Examiner.com not so long ago) I'm frustrated to come back to DJ's somewhat bland interface. Alright, that's probably a little harsh as some aspects such as the edit others articles capabilities are awesome, but there are quite a few things that need to be worked on if you ask me.
1. The mobile site- I'm aware that apparently this is being worked on as we speak, but guys we really need more capabilities here. If I'm out and about and a story breaks, I'm useless until I can get home. I have an iPhone, and would love to post there and then, but currently the mobile site just doesn't cut it. Any ETA until the new upgrade rolls out?
2. Some sort of API to make the site more "open" - I would really love to be able to post articles from other programs such as Windows Live Writer instead of using the sometimes clunky web interface and would also love to be able to make/use a native iPhone or Android app. By opening up an API this would make the DJ platform so much more worthwhile. Even if you partnered with some of us writers who can program for say Android to build some native apps to get the DJ name out there and bring us more functionality on our so called "Smart-phones"
3. What's with the ad at the top? - Alright, alright I know this site relies on advertising money to pay us writers, but seriously that advertising bar at the top of the page just doesn't cut it for me. I used to show my friends and they all thought the site was so professional and looked like a (this is an actual quote) "real newspaper site". Now though they simply shake their head and comment on the ghastliness of those text ads. Can we jazz them up a little bit, maybe only put an image banner or something?
That's all for now. If you're still reading this, you're probably shaking your head at how outrageous these demands are, but seriously I think they need some attention.
