My Top Ten Tips for increasing Traffic to your blog are as follows, they may not be the industry standard but they are some methods I have found helpful.
1. Register with blogger communities:
IcePop
BlogCatalog
MyBlogLog
Blogsrecord
blogCave
1. ADD every new member (where the site allows you to) as your friend
You will always be on their front page as one of their first friends which means you get seen when people visit their profile and join their community(same reason). They are likely to reciprocate too and again your blog then gets exposure on their blog.
2 .
Join all the top communities and new communities. (Same reason as above)
3 .Join a few groups on there also and post on the forum and write nice little extracts from your blog with links where the sites allow them to be posted.
4.
Visit the blogs of your fellow bloggers on these communities as then YOUR blog may appear on their blog via the ‘recent viewer’ widget where the site has them.
5.
Comment on other peoples blogs and make sure your user name links back to your blog. Have a user-friendly pic up that makes people want to visit your profile.
6.
Get a free traffic feedjit widget so you can see where your visitors were referred from and can tell what works and what doesn’t re traffic boost.
7.
Write articles and post them to sites like IcePop. The articles get good exposure and lots of readers. You can be a columnist too!
8.Join forums where the users may be interested in your blog. Have your blog address in your signature. Post regularly. Again pick an interesting avatar.
9. Join facebook, join a few groups, post a picture and link to your blog. Others can’t be bothered so your pic may be up there ages, linking back to your blog.
10. Create back Links - but only if they relate to your type of blog or it can (so I have been told) have an adverse affect.
And so much more, but this will keep you busy for a while!
Good luck!
PS. It goes without saying that you NEED good content. Without that people won’t re visit your blog. Also, you need eye catching titles to entice the reader to move from your blog ‘feed’ to your blog site!
Register with www.feedburn.com and www.Technorati.com and sites like Stumble and Digg and twitter. These all help to promote your blog.
