I enjoy life, I enjoy my work and I enjoy people so for the most part I enjoy everything that is around me and I have no complaints.
Due to the nature of my work I commit a lot of time to other people. Other than that I commit a serious amount of time to other causes and other people and, as much as I enjoy it, it eventually take it's toll.
When I found out that August 22nd was going to be a day where I could pamper myself I was elated. Then I realised it was a day I'd have to work. I quickly took the positive view and decided to work the morning.
So even though I had to work I decided the best part of the day was for "me".
I left work at 2pm and climbed aboard a bus. I sat on the bus, enjoying the sights of the city until 3pm, then I headed home. I thought about what I needed most and decided on sleep. I slept for 2 hours. When I woke I was feeling good.
I called a Chinese takeaway. I ordered many things from the menu. My intent was that I would eat what I wanted, as much as I wanted and the cost wasn't an issue. It was about me having what I wanted.
I also turned off the mobile phone. Great idea.
As well as the food I also drank a bottle of wine and watched some DVDs that I wanted to and quite honestly, I felt so tremendously relaxed last night, it was great. Actually I felt so relaxed I slept until 10.45 Sunday morning, which is completely unusual.
In chatting with a friend she admitted that a recent weekend away was not what she had originally said. She now told me she'd gone alone and loved it. I'll be doing this in future.
It's important to have time for yourself. I enjoy giving myself to other people and enhancing their lives but at the end day I am the only one responsible for my personal maintenance and I will be the one to take care of it.
So whether it's a few hours, a day or longer, make sure that there is time on your calender dedicated to YOU.
