Sometimes, a band strolls its way into my consciousness.
Hey Rosetta is one of those bands, a melodious fun-loving band hailing from Newfoundland, a Canadian province.
They recently played at Toronto's Harbourfront stage over the weekend, and I caught their entire set. It wasn't just the usual setup of guitar, bass and vocalist. I was treated to material from their album
Into Your Lungs, one of the best albums I've heard this year. There's something courageous about this album; Hey Rosetta doesn't try to fit into the cookie-cutter indie format that's been popular this decade.
At the show, all of the musicians jumped and pranced on stage, whether they were strumming chords or flying their bow over violin strings. This show of uninhibited fun made the crowd go crazy, as we hollered and cheered for more.
Sometimes, a band makes you fall in love with live music all over again. That's where Hey Rosetta fits in.
