A little about Sykos aka Gryph, Knight ....

Hello all,

Just thought I'd blog a tad about why I've become a member of DJ. Although I can't currently be called a DJ addict, I am addicted to being and keeping informed. As I've lost a great amount of faith and interest in standard media, I've found myself turning more towards blogs, online stories and other sources to find out what's happening in this wonderful, confusing world of ours.

I'm so infernally tired of receiving canned, massaged, 'produced' coverage of everything from the current crisis in Myanmar / Burma to the rescue of a cat in Tennessee. The tried and true indicators of good news has been slowly infiltrated with a need to make it 'exciting', 'headlining', and 'current'. Although this is likely good for ratings, this formula tends to be based solely on the observations of those wanting to increase ratings. A lot of hard-hitting news and personal stories get lost in the mix because they aren't deemed 'worthy'. I swear I'll scream if I here one more 'investigative journalist' on a certain channel (that has 2 C's and an N in their name) ask the 'probing question' ... "Take me back to the moment [fill in crisis] .... how did you feel? What was your first thought?"

I'd love for someone to respond with, "My first thought was ... WHAT THE F*&K ?!?!?" A little difficult to bleep that during a live interview ... lol

Anywho, I joined this community because I'd like to be active in the news that I read and provide what I find to be newsworthy. I figure that if I find something interesting, there must be at least one other person on this planet that agrees.

Welcome to DJ Sykos and it is possible that you could become a DJ addict as some of us are.

I'm with you on these "investigative journalists" who ask the question "How did you feel?" For crying out loud maybe someone just had the worst tragedy in their life happen and they are asked "how did you feeling?" How stupid.

My daughter, Jaguar, was once very active here at DJ but not anymore. She occasionally sends me something that she asks me to write about and on rare occasions will comment.

I was out for the day with her yesterday and she said that she comes to DJ almost every day for the news of what is going on in the U.S. and the world. She said that she has found that DJ is the best news site that there is covering more important news and a variety of news stories that there is.
She always votes up the articles that she reads but is seen as a visitor most of the time.

I second the welcome, Sykos, and your story is very much like many other members' here on the site. I've found that citizen journalism gives people a chance to decide what should be the news, rather than the MSM force-feeding them what they should think, what they should prioritize. I mean, when the Rev. Wright scandal exploded, I noticed CNN spending THREE straight hours on it. And I think that was their minimal coverage!

Like Jaguar, I also find DJ to be an excellent source of news, no matter the topic. And you'll soon realize, Sykos, that we cover breaking news on DJ days before the other media catch up. You're part of the citizen media revolution and I look forward to your articles.

Sykos - Welcome to the cutting edge of the News Revolution.
It really is a Revolution, with so many people scattered so far and so wide reporting on what's happening. And just a bunch of fun too.

Welcome. =) So far I like the stuff, keep it comming. See if you can compete with Miss S. D. for the top spot which used to be inhabited by Chris V. (cgull).
