The hugely popular and famous "
TED" conference is coming to Toronto in September and the conference will be available on the Internet via live webcast.
If you're not familiar with TED, Wikipedia sums it up well:
TED is famous for its lectures, known as TED Talks, which originally focused on technology, entertainment and design, but have now expanded in scope to a broad set of topics including science, arts, politics, education, culture, business, global issues, technology and development.
You can see past presentations
on the TED website here. Speakers have included such people as former U.S. President
Bill Clinton, Nobel laureates
James D. Watson,
Jane Goodall, and
Al Gore, Microsoft co-founder
Bill Gates, Google co-founders
Sergey Brin and
Larry Page, and
Billy Graham.
TED coming to Toronto...
TEDxTO, as the event is called, is now looking for leading thinkers & doers within the Toronto community to answer the question "What's Next?"
The organization is putting together a packed line-up of speakers to explore and inspire the world's future, and they're looking for your input. If you know someone who has an "idea worth spreading" on stage at TEDxTO, you can
nominate them here.
Given the fact many of you are interested in citizen journalism, and you've seen DigitalJournal.com grow over the years, we're asking you to nominate
Chris Hogg, Digital Journal's CEO.
Since its inception, Digital Journal has been a pioneer in citizen journalism and Hogg has been one of the leading thinkers behind this company's vision of democratizing media while at the same time ensuring it's done well. As many of you also know, he's often called upon by media to talk about this very subject, along with news from the tech and web universe.
TEDxTO will open to four speakers from the Toronto community as well as reach out to top speakers around the world. You can watch the conference via a webcast online.
If you think citizen journalism should have a presence at this conference, we ask you to nominate Chris Hogg, CEO of Digital Journal, as a speaker. If you know someone else who would make a good speaker, you should also nominate them.
I recommend Hogg speak at TEDxTO on citizen journalism and the changing face of media. He can speak on "what's next" for media.
What will the world be like as financial stress breaks the back of certain media outlets (we've seen a lot of newspapers fold in the last year)? How will your perception of the world change if your friends and family become sources of information rather than media? How does living a life online, through sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube change our views of each other and the wider universe?
Nominate Hogg to speak on this topic, and help give citizen journalism a global voice. You can submit a nomination here:
