Anyone who saw James Lovelock interviewed a few nights ago by George Stroumboulopoulos of "The Hour" on CBC must have felt chills run up their back.
Lovelock, originator of the Gaia Hypothesis (the earth is a self-regulating, self-balancing organism), and prophet who started warning in the 1960s about global warming, said it was too late to do anything.
What we have we done, he said, is to kick start global warming that would not have occurred until well into the future. The last great warming, part of a cycle, was 55 million years ago.
It can't be stopped, says Lovelock, only slowed down by decreasing emissions.
Once in full force the effects of global warming will kill seven out of eight people.
