DigitalJournal.com debuts Liveblog debate topic: Marijuana

Posted May 26, 2009 by  Chris Hogg in Internet 9 comments
Scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern time on June 2, DigitalJournal.com’s first online Liveblog debate will focus on the issue of decriminalizing marijuana. Should weed be decriminalized or should the war on drugs continue unabated? Join the live debate to have your say.
In almost every country, marijuana use is a hot topic. Politicians clash on whether to loosen legal restrictions on smoking the plant. Religious groups and educators continue to take a hard-line stance on drugs. Law enforcement spends billions of dollars on policing tokers and growers. So who is right?
Pot is enormously popular in many circles, and many of those people believe it’s time to decriminalize it or even go so far as to legalize the green stuff. Others say it’s harmful to one’s health and would be a serious public risk if it were to be decriminalized or made legal. What do you think?
DigitalJournal.com’s Liveblog debate will begin at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, June 2. Moderators will pose questions to the audience to begin conversation. One DigitalJournal.com member will argue for decriminalization of marijuana, while the other will argue against it. We need you to participate and add your thoughts to the debate.
During the hour-long Liveblog Debate, moderated by Digital Journal staff members, respectful and non-abusive comments will be published for, and against this issue.
You don't have to be a Digital Journalist or a site member to take part in the discussion, either. You simply need to log onto DigitalJournal.com on the day of the Liveblog Debate, and you'll see an article on the front page with a headline announcing the Liveblog Debate is now active. The debate will be embedded inside an article, at the prescribed time.
So join us Tuesday, June 2 at 2 p.m. Eastern to have your say! If you're on Facebook, you can RSVP for the event here.

You don't need to share your thoughts on the subject here. Save it for next week :)

Try it anyway. Never know! You don't have to refresh the page -- the live blog updates itself.

Yes, I can see it now, me wanting to say something so badly because some idjit has said something that, of course, me be a reasonable person, thinks is so totally idiotic and I can't because I've got this stupid dial-up ... yes, that noise you heard was me throwing my kid's laptop out the window and hear it bouncing off the rocks, splashing down into the lake ... so calm and serene LOL Think I'll save my sanity and pass :)

Despite the discussion having been done to death, I still believe this an excellent first choice. Not high, but loaded for bear.
