Fluctuating Pay

Hi,
I noticed my pay was fluctuating (downward.) The FAQ confirms that pay does fluctuate.
I was wondering, is there a limit to this, or can you lose it all? An example.You have $9.99 and then you go on vacation. Can you come back to find you have nothing? And what if you get sick? For instance, you have an illness that puts you in bed every so often?
