Digital Joural has errors and it makes me very mad

Posted Mar 19, 2009 by  Nikki Weingartner in Technology 5 comments
As a writer, I just posted a blog - a very heartfelt and warm blog that took about 45 minutes to write. I clicked the spell check as I try to do to ensure my blog, article or comment is at best, spelling correct.
Then......I made the corrections but when I clicked finish, the BODY of my BLOG duplicated right over the BODY of the Blog. I had two BODY parts in my blog: one in spell check mode and one not.
The one in spell check mode? I couldn't get out of spell check. I couldn't post because I was in spell check mode. So, I thought I would spell check the duplicate body since the buttons were visible on that one. I did and then closed out of the spell check mode and hit POST. Nope.....you must click finish spell check before you post.
WTF?
so I hit cancel since it seemed to be a duplicate.....All the writing gone.
Pissed at the words lost forever. There isn't s "auto save" on blogs like news.
There isn't a recoup button and the "BACK"? Yea, it goes back to the previous article I read.
Hitting "undo" only gives you a BLANK blog. Gone forever. I will recoup but as a writer, it sometimes flows at a moment and equates to driving an hour to pick up a form that only one person has and must be filled out in pen and hand delivered......
forever gone. all because I hit Check Spelling......and there is no auto save. Maybe a suggestion for FUTURE????
(and yes, i have the most updated version of my virus software running - thank you for asking).
and no...i did not spell check this time. Oh hell no.

What browser are you using? Internet Explorer on Windows Vista?
Sorry to hear that you experienced some issues. In the future, if something like this occurs, select all text while you can still see it and CTRL-C (Copy) it and paste in a word processor, to make sure you have backup.

Alex, thank you. I know how to cut and paste and usually do if it is important.
As this was a BLOG and they don't have the same feature as news (auto save), it bit me in the rear end in this instance. Leaving me with much frustration.
I use Vista - have a PC. I do not use, however, Internet Explorer. I use Chrome as it provides a far superior mode of internet usage. IE is simply a 3 on a 1-10 scale and Chrome an 8, at least with Vista.
This is not an issue I have had before. And as I said, it was one of those situations where its a "blog" / not "news" things. Very frustrating and I honestly didn't need nor want backup. My fault for not. My bad for assuming it had the same autosave feature. Totally my issue.
I use to write all news in save to word processor format - that got old very fast. Very cumbersome and only in certain instances do I employ that tactic. A blog? Not really necessary. So my loss. Thanks for the input though. I am over the frustration. :)

It is not your issue. Thanks for getting this to our attention and we will investigate further, to see if there are issues with Vista/Chrome/Spell Check to make sure this doesn't happen again. We don't want you to lose work or be afraid of using Spell Check.
Thanks again for your patience and getting over it relatively quickly. :)

I have had this problem when making a comment. I copy it and then refresh it and then paste it. I learned to do this after losing a couple of long comments.
