For Hollywood, a party is business. And a business can be all about the party. With award season, parties make money and with the Oscars, it is the biggest party of the year.
While many go on throughout the week, when Oscar weekend hits, it can become quite intoxicating, to say the least. Throw in the awards, and it is quite a weekend indeed.
Now, on Feb. 23, Oscar eve, there will be two award shows. One has lost some luster and one has gained, over the years. The Razzies had lost some zest while the Independent Spirit Awards is often the place to be the night before the big show.
Or at these places.
Feb. 23
- The Society of Composers & Lyricists Party will have an afternoon bash at a private home in Beverly Hills.
- The Motion Picture & Television Fund's The Night Before Party takes place at the Beverly Hills Hotel. One sponsor of this party is The Hollywood Reporter, where this list can be enhanced further.
- Sony Classics Nominees Dinner takes place at The London Hotel. They were behind nominees "Amour," "The Gatekeepers" and "Searching for Sugar Man," the favorite to win Best Documentary.
- Barry Diller's Luncheon, as it is called is for Vanity Fair’s Carter at a private home.
- Charles Finch and Chanel Pre-Oscar Dinner is at Madeo.
- The Weinstein Co.'s Party iw at Soho House. They have two horses in the race with "Django Unchained" and "Silver Linings Playbook."
- Chateau Marmont Party features WME’s Warren Zavala, Mandate Pictures president Nathan Kahane and Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Doug Wald. The hotel on Sunset Boulevard is always a trendy spot to host a pary. Focus Features, distributor of "Anna Karenina" will also be on hand.
Feb. 24: (Oscar Sunday)
- The Governors Ball. Chef Wolfgang Puck and his catering company feeds those in attendance at the Oscars. It is the first stop before heading into the night - and all the other parties.
- The Vanity Fair Party takes place at Sunset Tower hotel on Sunset Boulevard. This one is now in its 20th year.
- The Elton John AIDS Foundation Viewing Party is at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.
- Madonna's party is the same night and is Guy Oseary’s house.
- Night of 100 Stars Dinner & Viewing Party. This annual dinner and viewing party is at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
- Twentieth Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Party is at Lure in Hollywood.
- AIDS Project LA's "The Envelope Please" will be at the The Abbey in West Hollywood.
The Oscars air on ABC Feb. 24.
