NRG Energy Back In Court Over California Lawsuit Settlement

Just when everyone thought that the decades-long argument between NRG Energy and the State Of California over price inflation for energy contracts was settled, a new lawsuit has been filed against the energy provider.
Ecotality, a competing provider of electric vehicle charging stations, has filed a lawsuit claiming that the settlement is illegal and hurts consumers. Ecotality says that the settlement will allow NRG to “become the default provider of charging stations throughout the state” by being “punished” to invest in building and installing its own products. This, Ecotality claims, will give NRG Energy an unfair advantage in the electric vehicle charging station market.
NRG Energy’s response? "While we were not provided with a copy of the filing, NRG Energy is making a private investment in California that will build an EV infrastructure that will encourage EV adoption in the state and help grow an industry to the benefit of the state of California, the people of California and all the companies supporting EV infrastructure."
We will continue to watch developments in this story and try to bring you updates as they are available.
