Robin Hammond, a renowned photo-journalist, has been arrested and incarcerated for 25 days by the Zimbabwean police after taking pictures in a no-journalist zone. Released today, the journalist told the press how his stay in jail was hell: 38 mates in the same filthy cell, and a brutal penitentiary staff that used different violent techniques to make the journalist confess he wes a journalist.
At one point during his imprisonment, Hammond was able to sneak a message to his wife asking her to hide his job on his online social profiles, so that the zimbabwean police wouldn't find out too easily. He explained that he was "at the mercy of a system where laws are bent to fit politics and human rights are regularly disregarded."
Will the Zimbabwean government reply to the Robin Hammond's laments? Probably not...
