I’m a huge fan of Florence and the Machine and fantasy stories. Imagine how delighted I was when I saw that the two have been combined! This morning Florence and the Machine posted on Facebook and Twitter the new video “Breath of Life” for the upcoming and anticipated movie, “Snow White and the Huntsman” starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, and Chris Hemsworth.
Florence and the Machine’s music and her voice have united with the small screen before, to great success. In March, HBO used Florence and her song “Seven Devils” for a season 2 trailer for Game of Thrones. It was an epic pairing. You can see it here.
In the latest video for “Snow White and the Huntsman,” I had goose bumps right from the start. Florence’s powerful voice, supported and enhanced by a choir and an orchestra, is matched perfectly with the clips from the film.
The trailer aspect of the video is impressive. I’m mostly in awe of Charlize Theron’s portrayal of Queen Ravenna. Theron usually plays a half-crazed (or fully crazed) woman really well. She makes the Disney version of the evil Queen look like an adorable kitten. However, the video also does well to show the complexity of Queen Ravenna. There’s more than just an envious murderess cloaked in ravens. How much complexity they decide to use in the film has yet to be seen.
Then there is Kristen Stewart. I have to admit, she wouldn’t have been my first choice. There are a few smiles, but mostly she just looks scared or confused. I’m sure there are many women, or girls, who will enjoy seeing Chris Hemsworth in the film. In the video he just looks angry all the time. All that being said, you really can’t judge a movie by watching a trailer, or two.
Admittedly, I wasn’t anticipating this movie like I have with some other monstrous movies that are coming out this year. I also hadn’t seen as much as what you’re exposed to in this trailer. I will now be seeing this movie for sure. Of course, I could just be susceptible to great marketing, which uses great music and action shots with no dialogue or in depth storyline. I want to hear more of the song, I hope Florence and the Machine play the song in concert this summer.
What do you think of the Florence and Snow White collaboration? Have you been anticipating the film?
