Vibrant Canadian comedian Darcy Michael marks the first Canadian to release an online stand-up special, with "Darcy Michael: One Skinny Bitch". The special hits the online world on Thursday, May 10th, 2012, at midnight EST, after it makes its world premiere as an official selection at the Toronto 2012 Bootleg Film Festival.
Drawing on material from his life, “Darcy Michael: One Skinny Bitch” features his favourite stories and jokes, and discusses more serious topics such as his remarkable weight loss, marriage, family and sexuality. Darcy’s stand up special release is modelled after the success of his American counterparts Louis CK, Jim Gaffigan and Aziz Ansari, and, following in their footsteps, Darcy is the first Canadian comedian to release his new special online directly from him to his fans. “Darcy Michael: One Skinny Bitch” can be downloaded here after midnight on May 10th. The fully mastered audio file and direct download video are available for $3.
“Darcy Michael: One Skinny Bitch” is the closest you can get to sitting at one of Darcy's sold-out live shows. The special captures the essence and the magic of a live stand up show, without frills and gimmicks. No laugh track, no fancy camera tricks, no elaborate lighting set up… this special puts the viewer in the comedy club on the night of the show… as it happened. This is what live comedy is all about: Dynamic, energized, imperfect, and real. Darcy tears the room apart, connecting with the audience in several off the cuff, unscripted and hilarious moments along with his usual rock-solid act.
Considered to be one of Canada’s fastest rising stars, Darcy has worked alongside many comedian greats, including Harland Williams, Janeane Garofalo, Craig Robinson, Mike Smith, and Matthew Perry. Pegged by the Montreal Gazette as one of their favourites at the prestigious Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, Darcy was nominated for a 2010 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Televised Performance. His edgy but personable approach has won him appearances at the Global Comedy Festival, Halifax Comedy Festival, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and CBC Radio's 'The Debaters.'
Darcy is currently filming a new comedy talk show “The Skinny with Darcy Michael” produced by Frantic Films. Filmed in Winnipeg, Darcy’s guests include Alan Thicke, Caroline Rhea, Judy Gold, David Steinberg, Harland Williams and many more. His upcoming projects don't stop there: Darcy can be seen in the upcoming films “Rapturepalooza”, a hilarious comedy starring Craig Robinson, and in the sequel to the Christmas classic “A Christmas Story,” which comes out this December.
The comedy powerhouse will be touring this year across Canada including headlining at Yuk Yuks Comedy Club in Vancouver on Father’s Day weekend, and performing at Massey Hall in Toronto for New Year’s Eve.
Prior to getting into stand-up comedy, Darcy had 32 jobs before falling into his wild career. After recovering from a brief but serious health scare, Darcy was inspired to turn his life around by focusing on his long-term health. After incorporating exercise and healthy eating habits into his daily life, Darcy underwent a complete transformation, going from a peak of 300 lbs to the lean, athletic size he enjoys today.
The comedian currently resides in Ladner, BC, with Jeremy, his husband of 8 years, and teenage daughter Grace. Darcy is “obsessed” with knitting and does so every chance he gets.
